About Veggie Pregnancy

I started this web site because I am trying to get pregnant, and when I was looking around the internet for a resource for vegetarian and vegan pregnant women, I realized there wasn't one.

So, I decided to create one.

My mother tells me I started to have a problem with eating meat when I was three years old. Throughout my adolescence I ate meat rarely, and by the time I was 18 the only non-vegetarian food I still ate was chicken broth. At the age of 20, I stopped indulging in chicken broth because I loved animals and felt very hypocritical. I have been a full vegetarian ever since. A large percentage of what I eat is Vegan, and I don't wear leather or any other products made from animals. The positive impact being a vegetarian has on the environment is an added bonus.

I am 29, married to a doctor who is in his second year of residency and also a vegetarian, am a mother to one dog and three cats, and I live in New York City.

I used to be a pastry chef until a shoulder injury forced me to retire about a year ago. As part of my culinary school education, I became certified in nutrition.

I stood by my husband while he went to medical school and became frustrated at how little western doctors are taught about nutrition.

I've always had an interest in health, natural medicine, and nutrition.

My apartment is filled with medical journals, health magazines, vegetarian cookbooks, and various books about health, nutrition, natural medicine, ecology, and vegetarianism. I try to educate myself as much as possible, because I believe knowledge equals power.

My husband and I recently lost a baby when I was nine weeks pregnant. We are recovering as best we can and plan to start trying again soon. (UPDATE: we suffered another miscarriage in May)

I hope you find this website helpful before, during, and after your veggie pregnancy.

We have created a discussion forum so you can share stories and ideas with other veggie women.

Thank you, and good health.
